Cybernet Systems' NetMAX Internet Appliance Software Adds
Economical e-Commerce and Webmail Packages
Ann Arbor, Michigan, December 17, 2002 - Cybernet Systems Corporation today
announced that its popular and economical Linux-based NetMAX Internet appliance
software for the enterprise now supports e-commerce and web-based e-mail functions
through tightly integrated, compatible plug-in packages. The first packages developed
specifically for Cybernet's NetMAX Professional version 4.01 are based on the
Interchange e-commerce suite, including e-commerce storefront, and EMUMAI'ss
Webmail 5.1, for centrally managed email and groupware. Both packages extend
beyond the basic Linux freeware by giving customers enhanced features and plug-and-play
functionality.
While highly acclaimed, Linux and attached web-based services over Linux remain
notoriously difficult to install and configure. The power of the NetMAX Internet appliance
software is its ability to simplify Linux. It gives users understandable interfaces to easily
configure an inexpensive, rock-solid web or VPN server, offering substantial cost and
efficiency benefits to users across platforms. These new business packages extend the
power of NetMAX even further by simplifying web-based email and e-commerce
operations.
"NetMAX already provides web site operators and hosting companies with a proven,
easy to assimilate web and file server experience," noted Cybernet Systems CEO Chuck
Jacobus, Ph.D. "These foundation services are now seamlessly extensible through the
NetMAX package manager - customers can plug in virtually any Red Hat-compatible
package to their NetMAX products. However, freeware is not always easy to use or
install, nor is it bug-free. NetMAX packages are pre-tested and have been configured to
easily upload with the NetMAX Professional, providing customers with minimum
downtime."
Web-based email through EMUMAIL Webmail 5.1
Through the NetMAX EMUMAIL Webmail 5.1 package, employees of small- and
medium-sized businesses can access email anytime and anywhere using any browser.
Depending on the number of domains and users, Web-based email can be more cost
effective for an enterprise than other alternatives; it eliminates the need to forward email
from a company address to a free mail service for access while traveling.
"Email is an essential application for any business today, and companies must have a
cost-effective solution for employees who travel and need to access their email
regardless of where they are," said Ron MacDonald, director of sales for EMUMAIL.
"NetMAX is good white box alternative to Red Hat because of its ease of installation and
use. It is a good alternative to pre-packaged servers like those we support from Cobalt
because customers can choose their server hardware. Businesses that use NetMAX
appliance software and hardware servers can cost effectively host and manage their
own EMUMAIL web-based email so employees can easily check email using only their
primary email address, regardless of where they are."
The EMUMAIL Webmail 5.1 package supports all Javascript-compatible browsers,
including Netscape, Internet Explorer, and Opera and is an ideal solution for a wide
range of display devices from WebTVs and PDAs to the more traditional PC and
Macintosh desktop systems. EMUMAIL Webmail is based on EMUMAIL's IMAP
QuickView technology, which gives users the ability to quickly display mail messages,
regardless of the size of the mailbox or the number of folders it contains. Version 5.1 has
an updated user interface, new interface customization through skins, improved address
book, integration with calendar functions, improved import/export, and remote server file
editing facilities. The product's standard features include those typically found in
desktop email clients: attachments, spell check, user address books, filtering rules,
remote mailbox viewing and real-time spam detection.
Easily configured e-commerce storefronts through Interchange
Interchange is an open source alternative to commercial e-commerce and application
server solutions. It is one of the most powerful tools available to automate and
database-enable web sites for online e-commerce and storefront applications. However,
in its open source form, Interchange is not easy to use or install. As a NetMAX package,
Interchange has been configured to tightly integrate with the NetMAX Professional 4.01,
and includes detailed documentation for package modification to allow for storefront
personalization.
The NetMAX Interchange e-commerce suite supports the sale of downloadable content
or durable goods, credit card processing, order processing, content management,
customer service and reporting and analysis. With NetMAX Interchange, customers can
implement traditional retail sales, digital goods delivery, B2B parts re-ordering, noncommerce
content management, auctions, order status checking, supply chain
management, project management, online collaboration and even MP3 Jukebox
distribution. NetMAX Interchange can be used as a completely self-contained product
over NetMAX Professional 4.01 or part of larger system e-commerce systems.
NetMAX Interchange can be integrated with payment processing services, ERP
systems, point-of-sale systems, accounting systems, external content management
systems, Java-based application servers, sales force automation systems, customer
relationship management systems, email campaign management systems and remote
databases on virtually any platform.
"By tightly integrating NetMAX with the open source version of Interchange available
from www.icdevgroup.org, we.ve eliminated the freeware.s most common installation
headaches," Jacobus said. "Customers get the benefit of NetMAX.s ease of installation
and use...and have the added benefit of being able to take advantage of NetMAX
phone-based product support at standard rates if an unusual installation problem does
occur."
Additional NetMAX packages planned
In 2003, Cybernet plans to launch additional easy-to-use packages to enhance the
NetMAX Professional.s security management and intrusion detection, e-mail spam
control and Windows domain management.
